Heartland ProRodeo Championships
Waco, Texas, Oct. 9-17

The PRCA created the Heartland Series to encourage cowboys to enter rodeos of all sizes, and to give emerging stars a chance at some big money. Rodeos with purses of $30,000 or less are eligible to become part of the PRCA’s Heartland Series, and the Heartland ProRodeo Championships offer a finals prize purse of nearly $500,000.

Who goes to the championships?

Cowboys who compete in at least 30 Heartland Series rodeos are eligible for the Heartland ProRodeo Championships; the top 30 in the Heartland Series standings in each event make the trip to Waco, Texas. In 2008, tie-down roper Stran Smith drove all night from Pendleton, Ore., to Carlsbad, N.M., to make his 30th Heartland rodeo on the last possible day – and won the Heartland Series title on his way to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, where he won the 2008 world title!
